Coffee Gets Me Started Jesus Keeps Me Going
I'm a coffee drinking Jesus loving girl!
Coffee and a working coffee pot are a must at my house. Definitely a priority! In fact, freshly ground coffee is one of my favorite smells. My husband even spoils me by making my coffee and having it ready when I wake up each morning even though he doesn’t like it at all. As shocking as is sounds, we are somehow still compatible.
How do you like your coffee?
☕ Regular or Decaf?
☕ Light Roast? Dark Roast?
☕ Hot? Cold? Blended?
☕ Sugar? Artificial Sweetener?
☕ Cappuccino? Latte? Americano?
☕ Milk? Soy? Almond?
☕ Flavor? No Flavor?
☕ Tall? Grande? Venti? Trenta?
Whew!! Seriously, so many options…
I find ordering coffee at a coffee shop kind of overwhelming with all the different combinations especially when you have a coffee connoisseur behind you. You know the one you envy because they rattle off this drink that sounds nothing less than amazing. But still, I prefer my coffee on the simple side: drinking it black mostly. Decaf is my preference except for one regular cup right away in the morning. So you might say that my simple coffee is definitely a priority! Hoping we can still be friends? In all seriousness, in my life I am guilty of reversing the above title--Jesus got me started but coffee kept me going seems more accurate. Devotions and prayer time were quick and a means to check something off of my moral to-do list. Even though I did get a lot out of them - the goose bump feelings and Holy moments- however ended when my quiet time was done. Afterward, I went back to relying on that magical substance to keep me awake and focused for the remainder of the day. Coffee was definitely a priority! Anyone else with me in this confession? In John 6:35-38 (msg) Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever. I have told you this explicitly because even though you have seen me in action, you don’t really believe me. Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. And once that person is with me, I hold on and don’t let go. I came down from heaven not to follow my own whim but to accomplish the will of the One who sent me.”
The person who aligns with Jesus hungers and thirsts no more! EVER!
I invite you to reread that sentence as many times as you need to. Let it sink in deep! Align in the dictionary means place or arrange in a straight line and give support to or agree with. Continuing in John 6:39-40 (msg) “this, in a nutshell, is that will: that everything handed over to me by the Father be completed-not a single detail missed-and at the wrap-up of time I have everything and everyone put together, upright and whole. This is what my father wants: that anyone who sees the Son and trusts who he is and what he does and then aligns with him will enter real life, eternal life. My part is to put them on their feet alive and whole at the completion of time.”
This ‘Coffee drinking Jesus loving girl’ believes that it is definitely a priority to agree with and arrange myself in a straight line or narrow road with Jesus! ‘The Bread of Life.’ And I love me some bread! Actually, it’s the spiritual bread that keeps us going. Real-life for today and tomorrow. But especially, FOR ETERNITY! Going forward the best choice is simple--like my coffee--to TRUST that Jesus has everyone and everything put together. Pretty sure that everyone means me and you and everything is all-inclusive. He is the master orchestrator and delights in the details that are uniquely you. Seems like that would include how YOU order your coffee. My plan is to surrender each day…. His will, His way, His timing! Coffee starting my day and Jesus keeping me going is DEFINITELY A PRIORITY! Let’s end this with one of my favorite worship songs: Lord, I Need You by Matt Maher. Hearts lifted! Arms Raised!
Heavenly Father, I need you! Every hour I need you! My one defense! My righteousness! Oh God, How I need you! Thank you for never leaving or forsaking me! Please be with me today as I surrender it all to you! As I definitely keep you a priority today! In Jesus’ name…..AMEN!
